SPROCKIT Sync Goes Virtual!

SPROCKIT successfully held its first virtual SPROCKIT Sync on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. While normally hosted by a corporate partner at their headquarters, the team quickly pivoted to bring its SPROCKIT Sync SV from the Google Partner Plex to an engaging online experience.

With the support of our community of Corporate Partners, Startups, Thought Leaders and invited guests from across the globe, SPROCKIT hosted the event online – successfully bringing the energy from its physical events virtual.

SPROCKIT Sync Summer 2020
The spirited SPROCKIT community celebrates its first virtual Sync.

SPROCKIT is the Global Innovation Marketplace for Industry to discover solutions to its most pressing challenges and opportunities; matching the right companies, with the right startup at the right time to bring revolutionary new products and services to market, through partnerships, investments and acquisitions, with game-changing startups.

SPROCKIT’s energetic CEO and founder Harry Glazer kicked it off  in true Harry style, setting the tone for the private, invite-only event with Corporate Partners, Startups and Guests of the only curated corporate-centered innovation community.

The SPROCKIT Startup and Alumni companies presented innovative solutions to the corporate executives looking for solutions to their specific challenges and opportunities.

In true SPROCKIT fashion, lively breakout discussions were held, including:

  • Winners & Losers: Impact on the Economy & Your Business
  • Evolution vs. Revolution: The Silver Lining of Chaos
  • Analytics & Action: Utilizing Data to Serve & Preserve Business Models
  • Advertising Impact: How will Companies Revive Ad Revenue?

In addition, SPROCKIT was honored to host special sessions with the Angel Capital Association focused on what it takes to raise a seed round, and with SPROCKIT advisor Larry Irving, who coined the term “Digital Divide”, on how companies can accelerate progress and impact change in diversity, inclusion and balance.

And, as the highlight of any SPROCKIT Sync, highly curated one-on-one meetings between startups and corporate partners were facilitated by the team.  The half-day event went smoothly and, unlike many virtual events and conferences, attendees appreciated the constant engagement and noted how fast it flew by!

Just because we aren’t together in the same room didn’t mean we couldn’t enjoy a reception to celebrate our partners’ successes.  The after hours social sponsored by Spirits Network with a Scotch Tasting was made possible with each participant receiving her/his tasting package in the mail in advance.  Spirits Networks own spirits sommelier Flavien Desoblin led a “spirited” discussion on the scotches provided to attendees and guests.  It was a perfect “nightcap” to an incredible day with SPROCKIT’s worldwide group.

Congratulations to all the attendees, Corporate Partners, Startup and Alumni, for joining in the first of what will undoubtedly become a #newnormal event for SPROCKIT Sync.  Cheers!

Sprockit and 4YFN join forces at MWC Los Angeles

4YFN LA 2019
At the 4YFN Discovery Stage at MWC LA 2019

A month out from 4YFN (4 Years from Now) Los Angeles, the startup venture of Mobile World Congress, connections made at the event are still fresh and active.

It was an outing in which real progress was made, connecting the dots between startups, the telco and media industries in the global home of entertainment.

The binding force to realizing that vision was Community Partner Sprockit, the global marketplace connecting the world’s top market-proven emerging companies in media, entertainment and technology. Sprockit and 4YFN collaborated to launch the Mobile Hollywood Innovators Program to profile some of the most innovative people and companies in the media and entertainment industries. The initiative proved popular across the whole MWC LA program, with the stage full to capacity throughout the sessions.

“Sprockit and 4YFN’s powerful collaboration at MWC LA provided a glimpse into the future of media and entertainment,” said Harry Glazer, founder and CEO, Sprockit. “By joining forces, we filled the 4YFN pavillion with Fortune 500 corporate executives who understand the power of partnering with the world’s top proven startups.”

The often standing room only 4YFN Stage presented dozens of innovative leaders in media and entertainment. Speakers included David Freeman, co-head of Digital Media at CAA; Audrey Morrissey, executive producer of “The Voice” and “Songland” on NBC; Sarah Steele, executive producer of VR/AR for YouTube, and Bill McCullough, vice president and creative director at NFL Media.

“Sprockit’s expansive rolodex within the media and entertainment community allowed us to fill the 4FYN stage with key industry executives,” said Jack Davidson, Americas engagement manager, GSMA. “We’re grateful for 4YFN’s new partnership with Sprockit and look forward to future collaboration moving forward.”

While at MWC LA, Sprockit shared its strong expertise in startup curation and development to support other startups in the 4YFN space:

  • Sprockit partner C-Score presented its startup assessment tool at the Discovery Stage, evaluating startups live. The proprietary software quantitatively evaluates startups, creating a level playing field.
  • Sprockit’s industry experts held office hours to provide feedback to startups participating in the 4YFN program.

Four Sprockit member companies also exhibited and pitched at 4YFN LA, showcasing the future of media and entertainment:

  • Cerebri AI, personalizing the enterprise by measuring customer engagement to drive financial results
  • Raydiant, a cloud-based, dynamic display platform for businesses to centrally deploy and manage applications across many screens
  • Stainless AI, showcasing a neural network that watches and understands media, automatically extracting frame-level, content specific metadata
  • The Q Live Game Network, instantly making business more interactive with customizable games like trivia, surveys and more

“We were very excited to work with Sprockit, MWC and 4YFN to open new doors for Raydiant at the show,” said Tuan Ho, chief product officer, Raydiant. “We had a series of announcements during the show, including Raydiant’s rebrand launch, a $7M fundraising round and introducing our new CEO Bobby Marhamat to the industry. The network that the Sprockit organization offers allowed us to really leverage all of this in an exciting environment with press, investors, corporate partners and prospective customers.”

It’s the Summer of Acquisitions

When it comes to startups, a slow summer simply doesn’t exist. Especially not for SPROCKIT startups,
who are at the top of their game and transforming the media, entertainment and technology industries.
In less than a month, three of our recent startups were acquired:

  1. LiveRamp acquired 2018 alum DataPlusMath in a cash and stock deal valued at $150 million.
The acquisition combines both companies’ data sets and will better help LiveRamp (formerly
Axciom) target ads for its clients on streaming and traditional TV. According to the Wall Street
Journal, “Data Plus Math’s measurement tool will be added to LiveRamp’s products to help
companies combine various data sets—and advertisers know if their campaigns worked.”
  2. Xilinx acquired 2017 alum NGCodec to enhance real time video streaming quality and reduce
the required bandwidth. According to a Forbes’ article on the acquisition, the deal “has the
potential to create a new breed of cloud applications that can utilize video encoding in
combination with AI and specialized algorithmic processing.” Terms of the deal were not
publicly disclosed, but NGCodec CEO Oliver Gunasekara shared there was a “5x return for our
investors and a great home for all of the team” who will stay on at Xilinx.
  3. LTN Global entered into an agreement to acquire 2019 alum Crystal.
According to the press release, the combined company “will offer mission-critical ad insertion,
digital watermarking, and other unique tools that will allow networks and digital platforms to
monetize their content across a fully managed IP multicast network.”

Congratulations to these former startups who have proved themselves indispensable in the media and
entertainment industries. We look forward to many more glasses of celebratory champagne as future
startups participate in the SPROCKIT program, proving how entrepreneurs and enterprises can
effectively drive much needed change within an industry.

SSIMWAVE collaborates with NGCODEC to offer a quality metric that facilitates encoder comparisons

SSIMWAVE collaborates with NGCODEC to offer a quality metric that facilitates encoder comparisons

By, Dianne Mercer, VP Sales SSIMWAVE

SPROCKIT first approached SSIMWAVE in 2017. Back then, we were just gaining momentum, booking our own presence at industry events: a small fish in a big pond.

We knew we were at the forefront of perceptual video quality measurement with a cutting-edge product that implemented the human visual system into software. We knew we were already the best video quality measurement software out there, the only one trusted by Hollywood. We also knew that our product appealed to a specific industry comprised of a limited number of players and that we needed concentrated efforts to get our name out there to the right people.

SPROCKIT gave us the tools to do this.

With them we were able to make the most out of every opportunity, establishing meaningful connections through networking and forging partnerships with other companies who serve similar customers. They provided the platform our product deserved.

We attended key events (NAB, CES) where SPROCKIT served as an all-in-one resource, relieving us from logistics planning and allowing us to focus all of our efforts on showcasing our innovative product to the best of our ability.

At NAB we gained over 20 high quality leads, as well as invaluable exposure. Our Chief Science Officer and co-founder Dr. Wang spoke on a SPROCKIT panel moderated by TVREV founder Alan Wolk, regarding Monetizing OTT beyond subscriptions. We were able to solidify meetings with Hearst and Univision, and collaborate with another SPROCKIT company, NG CODEC, to offer them a quality metric that facilitates encoder comparisons.

Working with SPROCKIT opened the door to many high-value opportunities that a small start-up could never have dreamed of identifying. These gave us the push we needed to continue building out our state-of-the-art software.

What’s next for us?

We will continue to be proxy for people’s eyes for the live and on demand streaming industry, ensuring our customers know what “good” looks like for their subscribers at any stage, from source to playback.  And we will only keep improving.

This week, we are excited to launch our VOD Inspector solution into the cloud. It will be the ultimate tool for engineers and architects to configure encoding parameters and quality ladders, recommend third party encoder/transcoder deployments, and establish VOD processing and delivery workflows.

Next stop: Hollywood!

Next stop: Hollywood!

By Kenneth Stamp, TradeCast TV

We’d already teased it a bit at our SPROCKIT booth at the NAB Show, but 2019 will be the year that TradeCast TV will open its first location in the United States. Later this year, TradeCast will have its own offices in the heart of Hollywood, entertainment capital of the world. We can’t think of a better place to start our American expansion than this hub of content creators, movie studios and television dynasties. The perfect location to further disrupt and democratise online broadcasting with our revolutionary OTT video platform solution.

Being a part of SPROCKIT and the SPROCKIT hub at the NAB Show has been great for us and contributed towards our move to the States. One of the new online video platforms that we debuted at the SPROCKIT hub is All Guitar Network, founded by the team behind the legendary guitar store Norman’s Rare Guitars in LA. Boasting content contributions from guitar legends like Joe Bonamassa and Slash, All Guitar Network TV (www.allguitarnetwork.tv) broadcasts content for over 50 million guitar enthusiasts worldwide. It’s a truly passion-driven platform that offers exclusive shows, guitar lessons, live performances and contributions of an ever growing group of world-renowned guitar players, making All Guitar Network TV the most complete platform for guitar information, backgrounds and insights.

All Guitar Network TV is an incredible example of a global niche subject that can now cater to all its fans from one central video broadcasting platform, available on all screens and devices. This perfectly matches with our vision to offer special interest video platforms that focus on broadcasting and monetizing content, with TradeCast TV fully unburdening them on the technical side.

These huge steps for TradeCast TV can be directly linked with out collaboration with SPROCKIT. Thanks to being part of the SPROCKIT community, we’ve dramatically increased our interactions with American-based companies and content creators. Also, sharing experiences with the other SPROCKIT companies and collaborators – for instance at the Sync meetings or at the NAB Show – has proven very helpful for us. It’s great to know that you have this community of likeminded media entrepreneurs that you can easily approach and collaborate with.

Expanding to the US was always our ambition, but since being a part of SPROCKIT, it has only become clearer that the TradeCast platform is built for a global audience and needs a US presence. Hollywood, here we come!
